Treating Light Like a Soundboard
The industry standard for sunglass tinting is a process known as "subtractive dimming." This traditional method simply makes everything in your field of vision darker by blocking a broad percentage of light. While this reduces brightness, it often comes at a steep cost: losing detail in the shadows and flattening the world's natural contrast. At Popticals, we’ve moved beyond dimming. Through our partnership with Carl Zeiss Vision, we utilize Selective Spectral Filtration (SSF)—a bio-engineered visual tool that treats the light spectrum like a soundboard.
Selective Spectral Filtration allows us to "turn down the volume" on the frequencies that cause glare and atmospheric haze while simultaneously "turning up the volume" on the frequencies that define detail and texture. Unlike standard "smoke" or "brown" tints that provide a flat, uniform dimming effect, SSF creates a proprietary "peak and valley" spectral curve. By absorbing specific wavelengths where colors overlap—which the brain perceives as visual "noise"—the lens creates a much sharper distinction between primary colors.

Whether you are trying to distinguish the subtle shades of green on a golf course or tracking a moving target against a cluttered background, SSF decreases "Reaction Time Lag". This clarity allows the visual cortex to identify objects instantly, reducing the decision fatigue that often leads to performance errors late in a game or mission.
Furthermore, this molecularly bonded tint is infused directly into the polyamide base. This ensures that the Visible Light Transmission (VLT) remains perfectly consistent across the entire lens, preventing the "thin spots" or color shifts that occur with lower-quality coated lenses. With SSF, you get a natural color fidelity that keeps your brain from having to "re-learn" colors when you take the glasses off, providing pro-level confidence in any lighting condition.
