The Conflict Between Optics and Electronics
We’ve all been there: you’re wearing your favorite pair of polarized shades, you pull out your phone to check a GPS coordinate or take a photo, and the screen appears completely black. You tilt your head 90 degrees, and suddenly the screen is bright again. This isn't a glitch in your phone; it's a fundamental conflict of physics known as Cross-Polarization.
To understand why this happens, you have to look at how modern screens are built. Most LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and many OLED screens use their own polarized filters to control brightness and color. When you layer the polarized filter of your sunglasses over the polarized filter of your screen, they can cancel each other out if they aren't aligned perfectly.
When the horizontal filter in your lens meets the vertical filter in your device at a right angle, light is blocked entirely from reaching your eye. This makes digital dashboards, rangefinders, and smartphones nearly impossible to read without removing your glasses.
Upgrade to NYDEF® optics and see the world in high-definition clarity.

For many professionals—from golfers using GPS units to tactical teams using digital optics—traditional polarization is more of a hindrance than a help. This is why Popticals offers **non-polarized NYDEF® lenses**.
By opting for a non-polarized, high-purity nylon lens, you gain several advantages:
While polarization is excellent for fishing or driving on a wet road, modern high-performance sports and tactical missions increasingly require interaction with digital interfaces. By combining the clarity of ZEISS optics with a non-polarized design, NYDEF® ensures that you never have to choose between eye protection and the technology you need to succeed.
Premium, cutting-edge eyewear designed for peak performance and visual clarity wherever your adventures take you.
