Yes. NYDEF® polyamide has a density of 1.01 g/cm³ versus roughly 1.20 g/cm³ for polycarbonate, making the lenses approximately 16% lighter. Combined with the lightweight Grilamid TR90 frame, this reduces pressure and fatigue during all-day wear.

Are NYDEF® lenses scratch-resistant?

Yes. NYDEF® lenses are finished with a premium ZEISS hard coating that significantly improves scratch resistance over standard thermoplastic lenses, while keeping the flexibility and light weight of the polyamide material.

What is an Abbe value and why does 52 matter?

Abbe value measures how much a lens disperses light. Lower values cause chromatic aberration — a subtle rainbow-like blur at the edges of objects. Standard polycarbonate sits around 30. NYDEF®'s value of 52 is much closer to the clarity of the human eye, keeping your view crisp from center to edge.

What is the Ri-Pel® coating?

Ri-Pel® is a ZEISS coating that makes the lens surface oleophobic and hydrophobic — water, sweat, sunscreen, and skin oils bead up and slide off instead of bonding to the surface. A quick wipe with the included microfiber cloth keeps the lenses clean.

What makes NYDEF® lenses different from standard polycarbonate?

NYDEF® uses a premium Polyamide (Nylon) developed by Carl Zeiss Vision. It has an Abbe value of 52, compared to 30 for standard polycarbonate — meaning significantly less chromatic aberration and sharper color definition across the entire lens.

Where are Popticals frames made?

Popticals lifestyle and NYDEF® Golf frames are made in Italy from Swiss Grilamid TR90, and hand-finished by Italian artisans to ensure the rails slide smoothly. Manufacturing takes place in an ISO 14001:2015 certified facility.

Are scratched lenses covered under the warranty?

No — the warranty doesn't cover normal wear and tear such as scratched lenses, or damage from accidents or misuse. For that, we offer the Popticals Replacement Program, which lets you replace damaged eyewear for a flat fee.

Can I get Popticals with prescription lenses?

Because the lenses are integrated into the sliding rail architecture, current designs do not support prescription lenses. It remains a goal for future development.

Do Popticals fit large or small faces?

Popticals frames are made from flexible Grilamid® TR90 memory polymer designed to contour to the wearer's head. Most styles offer an adaptable, universal fit that accommodates a wide range of face shapes without pinching or sliding. Several styles are also available in a smaller frame size.

Do the lenses scratch each other when collapsed?

No. The rails use parallel-path geometry that slides the lenses behind one another on separate planes with a 2mm safety gap. The lens surfaces never touch, so they don't scratch during collapse or storage.

Every pair of Popticals is protected by a 2-year warranty from the original purchase date against manufacturer's defects in materials or workmanship. If covered, we'll repair or replace the product at no charge.

What happens if I scratch or crush my Popticals?

Through the Popticals Replacement Program, if you damage your frames or scratch your lenses within 2 years of purchase, you can send them back, pay a flat fee of $50, and we'll ship you a brand-new pair. It's a one-time exchange and excludes lost or stolen eyewear.

What is your return policy?

If your eyewear isn't the perfect fit, you may return any pair purchased directly from Popticals.com for a full refund within 30 days of receiving your order. Items must be unworn, unused, in resalable condition, and returned in the original packaging including the case and accessories.
