Q: What are NYDEF® lenses?

A: NYDEF® is a premium, high-resolution optical system manufactured exclusively by Carl Zeiss Vision. Unlike standard polycarbonate lenses that offer a muddy image (Abbe 30), NYDEF® utilizes a specialized Premium Polyamide (Nylon) base to achieve an Abbe Value of 52—a clarity rating nearly double that of standard sport shades and nearly identical to the human eye.

Calling NYDEF® Premium Polyamide "plastic" is like calling a fighter jet a "propeller plane." While standard sunglasses use polycarbonate—a low-cost, high-volume commodity—NYDEF® is a specialized optical polymer engineered for extreme clarity and structural integrity.

Standard Polycarbonate

Mass-produced via high-pressure injection molding. This process traps internal material stress and "frozen-in" tension that scatters light, resulting in the "muddy" visual haze common in traditional sport shades.

NYDEF® Optical Polymer

Liquid-cast in a zero-stress environment. Because the material is never forced into a mold under pressure, it remains optically pure, allowing light to reach your eye perfectly parallel for glass-like resolution.
