Protection Beyond the Frontal Plane
When most people think about sunglasses, they think about the light hitting them directly from the front. However, optical health and performance are often dictated by what happens at the edges. In the world of high-performance optics, we call this stray light—the UV radiation and glare that enters from the sides, top, and bottom of your frames. If you are wearing flat, "fashion-first" eyewear on the course or in the field, you are leaving a massive gap in your defenses.
Light is reflective. Even if you are facing away from the sun, UV rays bounce off the grass, the sand, the asphalt, and even the inner surface of your own lenses. Traditional flat-front sunglasses sit away from the face, creating a gap that allows this unfiltered light to reach the eye. This isn't just a minor annoyance; it can lead to "photokeratitis" (sunburn of the cornea) and long-term macular damage. Furthermore, stray light hitting the back of a lens can cause "back-side reflections," which create a ghosting effect that distracts your focus mid-activity.
Stay shielded from every angle with Popticals' 8-Base wrap-around design.

To solve this, Popticals utilizes an 8-Base wrap-around geometry. The "base curve" of a lens describes its radius; an 8-base lens is highly curved to follow the natural contour of the human skull. By "wrapping" the lens around the face, we effectively create a physical shield that seals out stray light. This design ensures that every photon reaching your eye has been filtered through our 100% UV400 ZEISS optics.
For tactical users and industrial workers, this curve also provides essential peripheral protection against physical threats like flying brass, spall, or dust. By combining this protective curve with our decentered optics—which eliminate the "fish-bowl" distortion common in curved lenses—Popticals provides a panoramic field of view that is as safe as it is clear. Don't leave your peripheral vision to chance; wrap it in armor.
Premium, cutting-edge eyewear designed for peak performance and visual clarity wherever your adventures take you.
