Best Practices for Cleaning and Maintaining Your Ballistic Eyewear | Tactical Insights

Your Eyewear Protects You - Now Protect It

PopZulu eyewear is engineered to handle serious environments from the shooting range to the job site. But even the toughest gear needs care. Proper maintenance not only keeps your lenses clear and comfortable, it extends the lifespan of your eyewear and ensures you're always mission-ready. Here's how to keep your ballistic eyewear performing at its peak.

    1. Use the Right Cleaning Materials

When it comes to keeping your lenses clear, what you use is just as important as how you use it. DO use a microfiber cloth, like the one included with your PopZulu case. DO use a lens-safe cleaner made for anti-reflective or polycarbonate lenses. DO use warm water and mild soap for heavy buildup or sweat.

Conversely, DON'T use your shirt, paper towels, or tissue because they can scratch lenses. DON'T use household glass cleaners like Windex®, as they degrade protective coatings. DON'T use alcohol or ammonia-based wipes. Pro Tip: Always check that your lens cleaner is labeled "safe for coated or anti-fog lenses."

    2. Clean the Frame and Hinges Too

Your lenses aren't the only part of your eyewear that needs maintenance. Dirt, sweat, and grime build up in the frame and collapsible FL2 Micro-Rail System™. Use a soft brush or cotton swab to gently clean inside frame crevices. Wipe down the hinges and arms after dusty or dirty environments. Avoid soaking your eyewear in water or cleaning solutions. Regular frame care helps preserve the smooth function of PopZulu's folding mechanism.

    3. Store Them Properly - Always

Ballistic eyewear is only effective when it's scratch-free, clean, and ready. That's why PopZulu includes a hard-shell case and carabiner clip with every pair. Store in the hard-shell case when not in use. Never leave them loose in a gear bag or glove box. Avoid storing lenses face down. The included case is crush-resistant and designed for tactical portability, so make sure you use it.

    4. Don't Forget UV & Environmental Damage

Even though PopZulu lenses offer 100% UV protection, prolonged exposure to high heat or sunlight when not worn (e.g. on your dashboard) can weaken coatings over time. Avoid leaving eyewear in hot vehicles or direct sunlight when not worn. Rinse off sweat or saltwater after extended wear.

    5. Inspect Regularly for Damage

Ballistic eyewear can take a hit but it should be inspected routinely for hairline cracks or warping, lens coating damage, and loose frame components or hinge wear. If your eyewear has suffered a hard impact or shows wear, replace it immediately. It may no longer meet ballistic safety standards.

PopZulu eyewear is built to last but proper care is the difference between a pair that protects for months and one that protects for years. By following these simple maintenance tips, you keep your vision clear and your gear field-ready.
