The Mirror in Your Eyes: Understanding Back-Surface Reflection
One of the leading causes of eye strain in high-performance sunglasses is a phenomenon most people don't even realize is happening: Bounce-Back Glare. If you’ve ever worn a pair of wrap-around sunglasses and seen the ghost-like reflection of your own eye or cheek on the inside of the lens, you have experienced back-surface reflection. This visual distraction forces the brain to constantly "filter out" unnecessary data, leading to rapid eye fatigue.
In wrap-around styles, light enters from the sides and top, hitting the back surface of the lens at an angle. Without proper treatment, the back of the lens acts like a partial mirror, reflecting that light directly back into your eye. This is especially prevalent in bright environments like sand traps or open water. To solve this, Popticals applies a Broadband Anti-Reflective (AR) coating specifically to the internal layer of the NYDEF® lens.
Eliminate distractions and focus on the mission with back-surface AR coatings.
Shop Collection
You can often identify this premium feature by looking at the inside of a pair of Popticals; you will notice a subtle purple or blue hue. This isn't a tint—it is the visual signature of the multi-layer vacuum-deposition process that cancels out reflecting light waves. By neutralizing these internal reflections, the AR coating provides a "darker," more contrast-heavy view without actually needing a darker tint.
The result is "Zero-Fatigue Optics". Because your brain no longer has to process the "ghost" images reflecting off the back of the lens, you maintain a higher level of situational awareness and comfort over long hours. In a world of compromises, Popticals ensures that your vision is protected from every angle—inside and out.
Premium, cutting-edge eyewear designed for peak performance and visual clarity wherever your adventures take you.
